Darrell’s Tech Tip of the Week
Setting up Sync Toy Task scheduler
1. Open Task Scheduler. Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Task Scheduler.
2. On the right hand side, under Actions, click on “Create Basic Task…”
3. Give it a name and optionally give it a description.
4. In this next step, you set up when you want the backup to start. I would recommend “Daily” or even consider “When the computer starts” if you don’t leave your computer on all the time. When you are done with your selection, click next to continue.
5. If you choose daily, weekly, or monthly, you will need to set up some parameters including the time of day/night that you want SyncToy to start. Once your settings are done, click next to continue.
6. Click on “Start a program”
7. Browse to SyncToy 2.0. The path is normally, C:\Program Files\SyncToy 2.0\SyncToyCmd.exe
8. Below the path, there’s a field “Add arguments (optional):” In that field, type in -R making sure you add a space before the hyphen. After that, click next.
Note: If you have multiple folder pairs, after –R insert a space then the specified pair name.
9. The final step is to click the Finish button and you are good to go
